You must pay 100% of your properly estimated Hawaii tax liability by the April deadline. • Late Filing Penalty: If your extension is voided because you didn't pay on time, a penalty of 5% per month (up to 25%) will be assessed on the unpaid tax from the original due date. • Late Payment Penalty: If you file your return on time but pay late, you face a 20% penalty on the tax unpaid within 60 days of the due date. • Interest: Interest will accrue on any unpaid tax balance at a rate of 2/3 of 1% per month (or fraction of a month).

Eligibility: Standard online payment plans are available if you owe $10,000 or less (including penalties and interest) and are caught up on all past tax filings. Repayment periods are typically limited to 12 months and require automatic ACH bank withdrawals. Fees & Conditions: There is a non-refundable $50 processing fee to establish a plan. Interest and penalties will continue to stack up on the remaining unpaid balance while you make payments. How to Apply: Once your tax return is processed and you receive a collection billing notice with a Case Number, you can apply online through your logged-in account on Hawaii Tax Online (HITax). If you owe more than $10,000, require a longer repayment period, or prefer to apply by mail, you must complete and submit paper Form D-100 (Request for Installment Plan Agreement).
