Do I need to file?
If you have an approved Federal tax extension, you do not need to file separate state extension paperwork in April. When you eventually file your final New Mexico return on or before October 15, you must check the extension box on your Form PIT-1. If you file your federal return on time but need extra time specifically for your state return, you must explicitly apply to New Mexico. You must mail New Mexico Form RPD-41096 on or before April 15.
