Do I need to file?
If you applied for a federal extension (IRS Form 4868) and your total New Jersey withholdings or estimated payments already cover at least 80% of your state tax liability, your state extension is approved automatically. If your tax withholdings do not meet the 80% threshold, or if you are not requesting a federal extension, you must explicitly file with the state. - You must submit your payment and request using New Jersey tax forms on or before April 15.
