Alabama automatically grants a six-month filing extension to all taxpayers by default, provided that you have no unpaid tax liability as of the original filing deadline. If you do not owe a remaining tax balance to the state of Alabama, you do not need to submit a paper or electronic extension form. If you expect to owe state taxes, you must calculate your estimated liability and pay at least 90% of your total tax due (or 100% of your previous year's tax liability) by the original April 15 deadline.
